Description

Location: 

  • Central Library   

  • 1015 N Quincy St 

  • Arlington, Virginia 22201 

Responsibilities:  

  • Lead the class in conversations, encouraging each student to participate. 

  • Introduce elements of English grammar, vocabulary, idioms, etc. 

  • Prepare materials and discussion topics for class in advance 

  • Students will be at different levels of proficiency

Library staff will contact candidates for interview. 
Library staff will check reference and initiate criminal background check for selected
applicant(s).

Types of volunteers: 

  • Adults (21+) 

  • Older Adults (55+) 

Time Commitment:  

  • Classes meet on Saturdays, 1-2 pm

  • Each teacher is expected to teach approximately one class per month though we welcome the ability to sub periodically for other volunteers

  • Current opening is for 4th Saturday of the month

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of a college degree 

  • No prior teaching experience required 

  • Excellent communication skills 

  • Friendly, encouraging, welcoming demeanor 

  • A desire to help students improve their English speaking and writing skills 

  • Enthusiasm and patience a must. 

  • Preferred: Experience working with people from other cultures 

  • Welcome: Experience teaching ESL
