Responsibilities:
- Encourage patrons in career transitions
- Review and edit resumes
- Help patrons create resumes
- Be (or become) aware of locally available support organizations and resources
- Help patrons complete and/or submit job applications
Types of volunteers:
- Adults
- Adults aged 55+
Time commitment:
- 1.5 hours
- Every 2 weeks (2 times per month), Tuesday evenings
Qualifications:
- Excellent customer service skills
- Experience providing employment advice
- Current awareness of online job search platforms and resume expectations
- Must be willing to gain awareness of current resume writing techniques
- Must be willing to gain awareness of locally available resources, including those at the Library
- Must not have a conflict of interest in helping job seekers
- Speak English fluently enough to communicate with someone about computer problems and edit documents.
- Fluency in a second language is a plus, but not required.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, email programs, file management and print preview and printing.
