- Library staff will check reference and initiate criminal background check for selected applicant(s).
Responsibilities:
- Support the library garden club to establish and maintain the library garden(s)
- Tasks will include digging, planting, mulching, watering, weeding
Types of volunteers:
- Young adults 18+
- Adults aged 21+ Older
- Adults (55+)
Time commitment:
- Weekly or based on needs of garden
- Most active from March until late November
- Minimum 12-month commitment
Qualifications:
- Interest in gardening, horticulture, or environmental stewardship.
- Willingness to learn and to work individually and collaboratively with others.
- Physical ability to perform outdoor tasks (e.g., digging, lifting, bending).
- Reliability and commitment to scheduled volunteer hours.
- Comfortable working with people from other cultures, age groups and backgrounds.
Activities:
- Collaborate with library staff to develop a vision and layout for the garden space.
- Library preference will be to prioritize the planting of native species.
- Plantings (with approval)
- Invasives removal
- Litter and leaf removal
- Weeding and mulching
- Assist with educational programs, workshops, or signage that promote gardening knowledge and environmental awareness.
- Help organize volunteer workdays or seasonal events in the garden space.
