Volunteer: Book Club Leader: Cherrydale Book Club

Responsibilities:  Lead a monthly book club for adults Develop a title and theme for the club based on your own reading, community interest, and with input from library staff Select book club titles with input from library staff Work with library staff to procure materials  Engage the group in discussion   
Types of volunteers:   Adult aged 21+   Older Adults (55+)    
Time commitment:   One book club meeting a month, for approximately 1 hour, plus time of reading material for book club selection. Schedule to be determined by volunteer's availability and library calendar. Year-round   Minimum 1-year commitment    
Qualifications:   Avid reader  Comfortable leading small group discussions Ability to create welcoming and inclusive atmosphere Comfortable working with people from other cultures, age groups and backgrounds Dependable   Good listening skills  Ability to manage participation so that everyone has chance to contribute

Lead a class in conversation, encouraging each student to participate.  Introduce elements of English grammar, vocabulary, idioms, etc.  Prepare materials and discussion topics for class in advance  Students will be at different levels of proficiency

Adults (21+)  Older Adults (55+) 

 

Time Commitment: 

Classes will meet: Once a week on a Saturday Each teacher is expected to teach at least 2 classes per month.

 

Qualifications: 

Minimum of a college degree  No prior teaching experience required  Excellent communication skills  Friendly, encouraging, welcoming demeanor  A desire to help students improve their English speaking and writing skills  Interest in guiding conversation and providing positive feedback in a relaxed, social setting Enthusiasm and patience are a must. 

 

Preferred:

Experience working with people from other cultures.  Teaching experience
